Camel caravan crossing the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga in October golden light

Morocco in October: The Golden Month, Explained by Locals

October is Morocco’s golden autumn month: 22–28°C in the cities, the Sahara back to perfect (25–32°C days), golden light everywhere — and noticeably fewer people than April. If we could pick one month for photographers, it’s this one.

We’re Happy Morocco Travel, an Amazigh family, born in Rissani by the dunes — and October is honestly our favourite month of the whole year at home.

October Weather in Morocco

  • Marrakech & Fes: 22–28°C — summer heat gone, evenings mild
  • Sahara (Merzouga): 25–32°C days, 12–18°C nights — ideal camp weather
  • Coast: 19–25°C — still swimmable early in the month
  • Atlas Mountains: clear passes, superb trekking, first snow dusting Toubkal late month

Why October Beats April (Just)

Same weather as spring, thinner crowds, lower prices than April, low humidity and that low golden light photographers chase. The date harvest around Rissani and Erfoud lands in October too — the palm groves are busy and the souk smells of fresh Medjool. For Australians, October sits right in your spring window — the perfect overlap with our autumn.

What to Do in Morocco in October

Everything — this is full-circuit weather. The 10-day loop from Casablanca and the 7-day itinerary are both at their best, and the 4-day desert tour with two Sahara nights hits the dunes in their finest month. Book 1–2 months ahead — October is quieter than April, but the best camps still fill.

Morocco in October: FAQ

Is October a good time to visit Morocco?

One of the two best months of the year (with April): 22–28°C, ideal desert conditions, golden light and fewer crowds than spring.

Is the Sahara good in October?

The best. Warm days, comfortable nights, clear skies — and around Rissani it’s date-harvest season, which makes the souks especially lively.

October or April — which is better?

Weather is near-identical. October has fewer crowds and the date harvest; April has spring greenery and roses. Photographers usually pick October.
