Morocco in June: Heat, Coast & How Locals Plan It

June in Morocco is a month of two countries: the coast and mountains are glorious (22–28°C), while Marrakech and the desert heat up fast — mid-30s to mid-40s by the end of the month. It’s absolutely doable; it just needs the right route.

We’re Happy Morocco Travel, an Amazigh-owned tour company — we grew up beside the Sahara in Rissani, we run tours all through June, and we’ll tell you exactly how we’d plan it.

June Weather in Morocco

  • Coast (Essaouira, Agadir): 22–28°C with steady ocean breeze — the sweet spot
  • Marrakech & Fes: 30–40°C, hotter late in the month — sightsee mornings and evenings
  • Sahara (Merzouga): 38–45°C at midday — desert works at sunrise and sunset only
  • Atlas Mountains: 20–28°C — prime trekking season begins

How We Plan June Trips

Build the trip around mornings, altitude and the sea. Cities early and late with a pool at the riad for midday; the Atlas and Chefchaouen in the heart of the day; and if the desert is on your list — it can be — we time it tightly: arrive late afternoon, camel trek at sunset, sunrise, out before the heat. Air-conditioned vehicle throughout, obviously.

For Australian families: June–July school holidays land in our hottest window, but a coast-and-mountains route with one carefully-timed desert night works beautifully — we run exactly this for AU families every year. For US travellers: June beats July–August by several degrees; early June especially.

What to Do in Morocco in June

Essaouira’s Gnaoua World Music Festival usually lands in June — the town’s best weekend of the year. The 9-day cultural tour suits June well (mountains, medinas, workshops — desert timed for sunrise/sunset), or ask us for a coast-Atlas custom route via our tailor-made tours.

Morocco in June: FAQ

Is June too hot for Morocco?

Not if you route it right. Coast and mountains are perfect; cities work mornings and evenings; the desert needs sunrise/sunset timing. Late June is hotter than early June.

Can you do the Sahara in June?

Yes, with local timing: arrive late afternoon, sunset camel trek, sleep in camp, sunrise, leave before midday. We run it all summer — the key is not improvising it.

Where is the best weather in Morocco in June?

Essaouira and the Atlantic coast (22–28°C with wind), followed by the High Atlas valleys. Chefchaouen and the north also stay cooler than Marrakech.
