Happy Morocco Travel is two brothers from Rissani: Elhoussian Tarhlaoui and Soufiane Tarhlaoui. Not a call centre, not a booking platform, not a middleman. When you write to us, you reach one of us — and the person who answers is the person who plans your trip.
We grew up in Rissani, at the edge of the Sahara. It is an old caravan town built beside the ruins of Sijilmassa, where the gold and salt routes once crossed, and it is still a working desert town rather than a tourist one. The souk fills the streets every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, and the dunes of Erg Chebbi are a short drive east. That is home. It is also why our itineraries are honest about the south: we are not describing it from an office in Marrakech.
Behind the website there is a real company. Our family business, Tarhlaoui Transport Touristique, has been a registered Moroccan tourist-transport company since 2006 — licence no. 190027. The 4x4s that carry you over the Atlas and into the desert are ours. We put the name Happy Morocco Travel online in 2019 so that travellers could plan a trip with us directly, instead of through an agency in between.
Two people, two jobs. So you know who you are talking to:
Elhoussian has been guiding since 2018, including specialist wildlife and nature groups in the Merzouga and Erg Chebbi area. It means he reads the desert differently from a city guide — where there is water, which hours are worth being out, which quiet track beats the busy one. He designs the routes.
French, English, Spanish, Arabic, Tamazight.
I am the other half. I build the day-by-day plan — the timings, the driving hours, where to slow down and where not to bother — and I write and run everything you are reading here.
English, Arabic, Tamazight.
We do not rent a vehicle and call ourselves a tour company. Through Tarhlaoui Transport Touristique, running since 2006, the 4x4s are our own and the drivers are people we have worked with for years, on roads they have driven their whole lives.
No sales funnel. This is the whole process:
And if the honest answer is “come in a different month”, we will say that instead of selling you the trip. August in the desert is genuinely hard — here is when we would actually go.
Rissani, ERR 52450, Morocco — on the edge of the Sahara, a short drive from Merzouga. Souk days are Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. If you are passing through on one of them, tell us: it is the best morning in town, and it is where most of our guests finally understand what a Moroccan souk really is.
We answer messages every day, 09:00–18:00.
Yes. Happy Morocco Travel is the online name of Tarhlaoui Transport Touristique, a Moroccan tourist-transport company registered since 2006, licence no. 190027. The website has run under this name since 2019.
Elhoussian or Soufiane. There is nobody else. The person who answers your first message is the person who plans your trip and who you can reach while you are in Morocco.
No. Every trip is private. Our itineraries are starting points — we adjust all of them.
Between the two of us: English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Tamazight.
Yes — and we have written honestly about the scams and the annoyances too. Read that here.
That is us. Two brothers, one desert town, a fleet of 4x4s, and a lot of opinions about where you should and should not spend your week.
Tell us your dates and what you would love to see, and we will sketch you something honest. Write to us here, or start with our first-timer’s guide to planning a trip to Morocco.
The first glass of mint tea is on us.
